18 February 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 18th [February 1891]. Nela & I went at 11 in gondola to church. Found that the organ was being tuned & no service cd be had. Went to Rietti’s & bought a copper pot to hold a plant. Sat to Nela for my portrait for an hour– After lunch Mrs Eden came to see me & she & I went out together to Silvestro where we bought more copper pots for plants & then walked to Mrs Bronsons. I paid her a visit with Carry. She was very hoarse & had a bad cold. I left Carry there & walked on to the Piazza where I met Nela & Henry & came home with them– Lovely day & a little thaw. Yesterday afternoon Mr Malcolm brought us over a letter from our Queen’s courier to say that H.M. had decided to come to Venice at the end of April from Cannes & had given up going to Florence. He is very delighted & is setting about arranging his house & says I must help him. Came home to tea & then read aloud to Henry till dinner at 8. Played Halma with Nela.
