20 February 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 20th February [1891]. Bergamo the hair dresser came & cut & washed my hair wh took some time doing. Nela went to church. I worked at the background of my portrait. After lunch Henry, Nela & I went out. Lovely weather—not cold—& very low tide. Went to the “Vespuccio” to leave a card on D. Luigi & then took a little walk in the public gardens where we met Mlle Cozzi & had a little chat. Went to the Stabto to see some mosaic work—an altar piece for the chapel of the Dss of Montrose in England– Came home to tea. Css Brandolin & her handsome daughter Charlotte & Css Giustina Valmarana came to tea, the latter brought a Css Brazzà to introduce to me—she is ½ English ½ Russian & widow of an Italian– Contessina Elena Mocenigo also came to see Nela– I read aloud to Henry. Yesterday we finished Lair’s “Louise de la Valliere” & today began the letters of M. de Boufflers. Dined at 7.30– Had the Trios in the evening & they played very well. I turned over the pages from Trombini. They played a fine but very difficult trio of Schumans very well–
