10 June 1891 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Wednesday. 10th June [1891]. Mr & Mrs Blunt (our Consul at Salmica) came to luncheon with us. She is a sister of Sir Alfred Sanderson our Consple friend. Her mother was Armenian & she has an Eastern look & has an accent– She has been a beautiful women but is no longer young. Nela came at 3 & went driving with Henry & me– I called to see Lady Galway & found her not so well. The afternoon papers have an account of this morng’s marriage of Sir Wm Gordon Cumming & Miss Garner which took place quietly his sister & bro in law Ld & Ly Middleton & Lord Thurlow being present. I am glad she has married him for the honor of our sex—tho’ I believe him to have been guilty—still a woman should stick to the man she loves thro’ thick & thin. The Times has a very good article on the late trial & ends by wishing the P. of Wales could also be made to sign a promise never to touch a card again! The papers are very bitter against the Prince’s part in the affair. Lord Selborne, Sophie & Miss Nevil Gordon dined with us quite quietly & went away early.
