15 June 1891 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 15th June [1891]. Miss Georgy Duff Gordon called soon after lunch & Mrs Vigor came to luncheon & she and I amused ourselves trying to paint flowers with guache colours—but were not successful. We took Miss Gordon out with us in the carriage & deposited Henry at the House of Commons where he attended a committee on the enlargement of Westr Abbey. I then took Miss Gordon to the British Museum to see Henry’s bust wh is now placed pro tem in the stairs opposite that of the D. of Marlboro. We went to ask for Mr Maunde Thompson who was very kind & took us thro’ some of the rooms to see the rearrangement of the Elgin marbles & Assyrian sculptures. I then drove Miss Gordon to her house 34 Hertford St & came home. Merthyr arrived today to stay with us but I did not see him until we had nearly finished dinner when he came in & we had some brought for him.
