26 June 1891 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 26th June [1891]. Tired & up late. Mrs Burr came to pay me her usual Friday morng visit. Mr Rassam came to lunch bringing his daughter Theresa who has grown a very handsome girl. They have lately been living at Brussels where she had been learning to sing & she was anxious to sing to us to show her voice wh is strong but not very sympatica. My head ached a good deal so Henry took me a drive to Hampstead Heath– We got out & walked but rain prevented our walking much– Mrs Henry White of Australia called after tea– We went to dine with Lord & Lady Aberdare & met a charming Parsee Lady in her Parsee dress wh consists of a white veil round her skirt & carried over the head. She is at Somerville College Oxford studying the law—that she may return to India & be able to practise among the women there whom she says are constantly being cheated by reason that they are not allowed to converse with men lawyers. After dinner I was so unwell I had to retire to Lady Aberdare’s bed room & to come home as soon as we cd get the carriage—& I was very sick & glad to get to bed.
