19 August 1891 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Wednesday. 19th August [1891]. Breakfast in bed– Packed. Henry went to city & lunched there. Mrs Pemberton called to see abt Annie Cole to go to her father Mr Robert Murray as cook & will also take Mr Cole as one of the gardeners. There was a sharp thunderstorm just at lunch time & it was showery all the afternoon– I walked out & shopped & returned home to tea– Henry also came in to tea– I went out again to see Mr Thomson Hankey who was in & sitting by a fire. Promised to dine with him tomorrow. Went to see my mother & found Mr Franks with her helping her to arrange her cards for publication. She complained of her health & said she had sent for Mr Burton to consult tomorrow. She seemed depressed. Says it is the beginning of the end. Her breath is short—she says she is very weak—& that her stomach is getting unnaturally large. Home & rested till dinner. Richard Du Cane & Dacre & Mr Rate dined with us. Halma & Patience in eveng.
