20 September 1891 — La Punta, Longarone
Sunday. 20th [September 1891]. A most glorious cloudless day. We breakfasted at 7.30 & drove all up to Zorno de Zoldo—I, Henry & Css Michiel in Mr Malcolm’s victoria with his horses. Mr M. & the young people in his tea cart with Longarone horses. We got there 10.30. Had some coffee & went for a climb in the woods & looked for flowers. Rita & I found some. Henry sat on a stone & read his papers. Returned to Mme Cercenas inn at 1 & had lunch– Then the Css, Max & Rita & I walked up the side valley to see the church where there is some of Brandolin’s carving wh I could not admire– An altar with wooden figures & emblems– It was a very steep climb up. There were a good many women going up to the church. It was very hot work. We came down by the road wh leads up to the church & by a nice house belonging to Mme Relligini by a chapel wh the inscription says was founded in 1200—restored in 1580 & since in this century– We walked down to the high road & sent our guide back to the hotel to say we wd wait to be picked up. The Css & Max sat down but Rita & I walked on getting flowers & studying short hand wh has become a brief mania with us. Got home to La Punta at 5.30 & had tea in the garden– I read aloud to Henry an hour before dinner. Patience after dinner.
