22 September 1891 — La Punta, Longarone
Tuesday. 22nd September [1891]. Henry & I were called at 6.30. When we came down to breakfast at 7.30 it was raining in such torrents that we thought of giving up our attempt to return to Venice. However it cleared at 8 so Mr Malcolm sent round for his carriage & at ¼ past we started & the rain quite ceased. By the time we got to Vittorio the sun was shining & a nice air blowing. We went to the hotel & had a little soup & then left by 12 o’cl train for Conegliano. There was an Italian family in our carriage father mother & 2 boys abt 7 & 8 as badly brought up as is usual in Italian families—screeching & fidgetting & talking. At Conegliano we joined the Vienna express & reached Venice at 2.30– Home to lunch– Unpacked. Went for a row after dinner. Ida Belmondo came to call before dinner.
