23 September 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Wednesday. 23rd [September 1891]. Busy morning unpacking &c. Ida Bel: came after lunch– Showery day & stormy. Mrs Browning came to tea & then a perfect avalanche of English visitors—Mr & Mrs & Miss Medlycott, Mr Wentworth Beaumont & a niece, Mr Oscar Browning, a Mr Townsend who has brought over from England a lot of young artists & I went up to rest abt 6—& then Mrs Eden came & sat in my bedroom with me– Mr Shaw Lefevre & Lady Constance his wife dined with us also Ida Belmondo. There was a heavy thunderstorm after dinner & when our guests left their gondoliers almost refused to start & we found out it was because they did not want to get wet!! | |
