29 September 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. [29th September 1891]. Got up at 11. Ida Bel: came then to help me to write invitations for a party on 7th Octr for the Bishop of Gib: but instead we talked till her husband called for her at 12 to go home to lunch. We went to tea with Genl de Horsey who altho nearly blind & having had his arm cut off for cancer is still wonderfully cheerful. He has a tiny little house for wh he pays £18 a year & has made it very nice. He has put up fine wire netting everywhere to keep out flies & mosquitos. He came down to the door to receive me—& was merry & agreeable. Ida Bel & her husband dined with us & we went to see “Fra Diavolo” at the Goldoni Theatre, very passably given. Teddy Moore who is at Venice for a day or two lunched with us.
