1 October 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 1st October [1891]. Began to copy Henry’s notes on Spain again—not having worked at it for more than a year. It was a splendid day & Henry & I went in the sandolo to the Lido. I read Creighton’s Popes to him on the way there & back. It was quite beautiful by the sea shore. The waters deep blue—& distant yellow sails in the distance. We walked along the sands to Quattro Fontane & then back to S. Elisabetta by the road on the other side of the island & got home again by 5.30. We dined with Mr & Mrs Curtis at Palazzo Barbaro and met Mme Villari. In the evening an American lady & her daughter came in called de Varmier. She sang & the girl played—both cleverly.
