10 December 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 10th December [1891]. Maria & the 2 girls went off by 10 o’cl train to stay at Vescovana. I had rather a headache & not feeling up to anything, I sat all day working at a handbag which I embroidered with coloured beads to represent jewels. Henry was busy all the morning helping Miss Constance Jocelyn Ffoulkes to get her book thro’ the press. It is a translation of Morelli’s last book on art written by him in German– Henry is also writing a preface for it & Miss Ff: brings him every day her printer’s proofs to go over. After lunch Henry & I started out in gondola together—he went to see Genl de Horsey & I called on Mrs Brackett & found her at home– Left cards on several other people– Princess Aimée Cariati & her sister Ida Belmondo & Ct Bel dined with us– Prince Cariati has carried off Aimée’s son Arthur Wallenberg to his school in Germany & Aimée is very much cut up at parting from the child.
