22 December 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Tuesday. 22nd December [1891]. I wrote a great many Christmas letters today– I walked with Henry over the Rialto to see the Christmas stalls– The scene is very animated & amusing booths being put up in every direction—& all busy buying & selling Christmas presents– All up the steps in the centre of the Rialto there are stalls & it was not easy to get along. We walked to the Piazza. Home to tea. Mrs Burr & Isabel Scobell dined with us & afterwards we had the mandoline band practise wh we kept at till 11.30. Mme & Mlle Stefani came to it. | |
