Monday. 11th January [1892]. I did accounts & wrote letters till 12 when Mrs Burr appeared & she stayed to luncheon. There was rain & sleet off & on all day so we did not go out– Wrote at home. Ola went to tea with Olga Montenegro– Mme Hurtado came to tea with me—& later Idita Bent. came—they stayed a long time– Idita was to have taken Olga Mont: to the Prefet’s ball tonight & now gave up going so I wrote & offered to take her. At 10 Olga came & took Ola in her gondola– I went on in ours to the Pension Suisse to fetch Isabel Scobell. I went up for a moment to see Mrs Burr & let her see my finery. I wore a grey moiré gown with pearl & diamond tiara & ornaments. At the ball there were all the Commissioners but it was not very full. I made the acquaintance of Ct Arco the Italian under secy for F. Affs. A tall good looking man who spoke French & English well—also Ct Wrangele the Russian. Bn Kufstein the Austrian. We came home abt 1.30 & Ola & I had soup & sandwiches in the kitchen. | |
