15 January 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 15th January [1892]. It was a foggy day. Mrs Burr was coming to lunch but she sent word that she thought she had better not come out. Ola & I were playing duetts after lunch when a note came from Malcolm asking if I could recommend a nurse for Mrs Mackie who is very ill. She was not feeling well when she dined with us last Friday & is now in a very critical state. I recommended telegraphing to Rome—but they got one by telegraphing to Florence– There is a deal of illness about and this damp weather makes matters worse. Telegrams in the Italian papers speak of the consternation in England at the death of the poor Duke of Clarence–
