15 February 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 15th [February 1892]. Ola remained in bed. I gave out stores &c. Copied Cortelazzo’s MS. His alievo Angelo came from Vicenza & brought some works Cortelazzo has finished & wants to sell. He told that Cortelazzo is in bed influenzato & his lungs slightly attacked. The weather was cold & there was not much sun. Ola was in bed all day with indigestion. I went out with Henry & we fetched Ida Bel & took her with us. We went to the Piazza & I went to the Palace to write our names on the Dss of Genoa– Coming away we met the Montalba girls looking most distressed & they told us they had heard terrible details of the death of the poor Pss of Montenegro. That she had been conscious to the last and had entreated the Drs to save her saying she could not leave her daughter– That the Papadopoli & her sisters & the Dss della Grazia had been there all night & had assisted her & never left Olga. That the gondoliers even were allowed in to see the lady & &c– We cannot understand such a state of things so different to what we would do in England when all one asks for is quiet & peace. It haunts me to think of. I went with Ida to Mme Wiel’s day & home to tea Ida having tea with me– Read aloud to Henry before & after dinner.
