30 May 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 30th May [1892]. Nela’s birthday & she was in a great excitement over her presents. Henry went out to the Marciana in the morng & left me at Css Pisani’s she having come to town for a few days. She came on Saty & leaves again tomorrow. On my return home I put the sewing machine in order for the girls to work it & make themselves shirts of a pattern given them by Baby Hatzfeldt. After lunch had a CC band practise– Then Ola & I prepared the music for the eveng. Css Pisani came to see us before dinner. The Belmondos, Trombini & Mr Malcolm dined with us. Ola was too tired to dine down but we all went out at 9.30 for the serenade. The two Stefanis, the Dss della Grazia & her girl, Edith Bronson, Mr Browning, Ola & I. We went down to the Rialto & played there & had quite a lot of gondolas to follow us. When we got to Mrs Bronson’s a storm of thunder & rain suddenly came on just as on the last occasion. We had to take refuge in the Bronson house—Don Carlos was there & several other people– We came home as soon as the rain ceased.
