22 August 1892 — Canford Manor, nr. Wimborne, Dorset
Monday. 22nd [August 1892]. Still splendid weather. Spent the whole morning with Ivor in the Queen’s room scheming out with him & old Sam the carpenter how to arrange some old red & gold hangings wh Ivor is putting up instead of the old oak panelling wh he & I arranged there some 25 years ago & which made the room very gloomy. After lunch Cornelia drove off to Poole with Miss Green. Most of the young people drove over to Bournemouth to bathe after breakfast & returned soon after lunch. I read aloud to Henry. Tea on the bowling green—& then Henry, Nela & I walked up to the tennis court to see Ivor play. I went from there to the garden—on the way met Meaby whom I had known since our youths & I went into a cottage to see old Whitelock, one of the few remaining old friends & he is 80. Elaine met me in the kitchen garden & we went thro’ the houses & then walked home. Read again to Henry till dinner. Lord & Lady Dorchester, Sir Sebright, a Mr King and Ivor Guest arrived. The latter took me to dinner. Mortal dull eveng but I played patience & there was a little music.
