11 October 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 11th October [1892]. Directly after luncheon Countess Michiel and Rita came over to see us. They are staying with Mr Malcolm. I had to go over to see the latter so Countess M. conveyed me there in her gondola & I had a talk with him about the arrangements he has made & is making for the arrival of the Empress Fred: on 15th. When I went home I found Mrs Bronson & Edith at our door & brought them in. We were soon after joined by Mr & Mrs Gardner & Mr Webber– Later Mrs Hulton came & brought her little girl Gioconda to tea. Lord & Lady Kentsford & Mr & Mrs Eden dined with us. Lord K. is very agreeable & lively but we found it rather difficult to get anything out of his wife who, however, meant to be pleasant. She is tall & handsome—but rather stiff & slow.
