21 October 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 21st October [1892]. Ola still laid up. I went out in the morng to see Mrs Eden & ask her to dine with us on Monday to meet H.M. the Empress. Found them at lunch & sat & talked to them. Went on to Hotel Britannia to see Bernadine Countess Benomar & Louise Aylton her sister—my old friends of Madrid—who had been so much with me. Louise has been in a convent & had to leave it on acct of her health—& will not go into the world—but they were both very cordial & nice & glad to see me– Came home to lunch. It rained nearly all day & blew hard. I did not go out again. We lit a fire for the first time this evening. It was really cold & dreary.
