2 February 1893 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 2nd February [1893]. Foggy again today. Ola was going out shopping & I asked her to take an emerald to be set that had come out of its setting. When I went to my jewel case to get it & lo & behold it was gone. We searched the room—swept it, looked in the cinders of the fireplace—in vain– We suppose it must have been shaken out of the box the day I went to the ball—or when the jewels were put back. I was so disorganized by the loss that I could not do anything all day. Read aloud to Henry. Ola dined with the Wiels & returned to pick me up & we went to a dance at the Pss of Georgia’s.
