23 September 1893 — Rufford Abbey, Rufford, Nottinghamshire
Saturday. 23rd [September 1893]. Went out with Ld Savile, Mrs E & Henry to see the glass houses & gardens which are very extensive. A thunderstorm abt 12 o’cl. At 1 Henry & I drove off with servants & luggage 8 miles to take the train at Tuxford. The train was late—so we lunched at the station on food provided by Ld Savile. We got to town an hour late. On arriving we were told that Blanche & Edward Ponsonby were in town & leaving for Ireland at 7.30 so I rushed off to 17 Cavendish Square & sat with them while they dined & then returned home to dinner as soon as the Ponsonbys had started for their train.
