2 April 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 2nd April [1894]. Went to the studio at 10. Mr Fisher came there & was so very kind as to spend the whole morning superintending my drawing. I had a new model Maria of his recommending & we were a long time posing her—then I drew her sick face– After a time we let her rest & she took such a lovely pose hanging her head down that we determined to begin all over again & rubbed the first charcoal drawing all out. Had to hurry home to lunch at 1—& by 2 to be at the Giardini Reale where Mme Noce & Mr Moore met us with the Arsenal steam launch & took us to Murano. We all went except Henry who thought it more prudent to remain quiet—tho’ feeling better. Torcello was lovely with violets & blackthorn flower. We sauntered abt for an hour went into the cathedral & the young ones went up the campanile. On the way home we had tea which Mme Noce provided. We came round by the Canareggio & were left at our own door– A visit from the Dss della Grazia who wants to change the band practise from Wedy to Friday. We had a talk about household affairs & she recommends us to employ a civil engineer to look after our house here. Miss Jesse More came to see our pictures & brought a young Mr with her. I went & sat with Francie in her room before dinner & had a long intimate & serious conversation with her on some of the difficulties of life. She seems very good & sensible—but I gather that her home life is difficult. In the evening Ola & I played duetts on guitar & mandola–
