8 June 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 8th [June 1894]. Dr Anderson having sent me a note yesterday evening to say that Roberts was not so well I got up by 8 o’clock this morning in order to see the Dr when he came before breakfast. He said he found Roberts better this morning & hoped the pleurisy was passing off. I painted all the morning in the spare room– Mrs Alexr Bagot, Blanche & Lady Lindsay came to luncheon– At 3 Nurse & I took Henry out for a drive in the open carriage to Hyde Park. At 4 I left him at home & I went to Dorchester House for a few minutes to see Mrs Benson. Came home at 5 to tea. Rested in my own room till dinner time. After dinner I played patience while Henry looked on– Ruth stayed to dinner with Nela & Nurse & me. Dressed at 9.30 & took Nela to the Queen’s ball. Ivor & Cornelia came to see us in the morng & Ivor was at the Ball with his 2 girls. It was a pretty sight which I had not seen for many years. Met there Sir Ed. Hornby & Sir Francis de Winton—old Consple friends. Nela did not dance but we walked about looking at everything & she enjoyed herself. We got home a few minutes before 2 & had tea in my room.
