16 June 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 16th June [1894]. I got up to breakfast at 9. Wrote a letter for Henry. He got up at 11.30 & went for a drive with me & Nurse at 12.15. We went by Gros. Sqr & the Stanhope Gate into the Park & drove down by Rotten Row & back again & then out by the Marble Arch & home—just by lunch time Dora Du Cane came to lunch also Lady Gregory, Connie Eliot & Ruth & Issie Du Cane. It was a hot day & we had coffee out in the Pav: Just as we were going out this morng Mrs Ball came to call—& seemed in rather better spirits. I was rather afraid she had been hurt at a letter I wrote her last week urging her to try & recover her grief—& was relieved today when she told me she had liked the letter. Lina Duff Gordon also came for an hour in the morning. When Henry came in from his drive he was carried upstairs to my room & there remained the rest of the day. He had a visit from Sir Fred Burton & also Rustem Pasha– Miss Duff Gordon came to see me & enquire also Bss Burdett Coutts—& Charlie & Bee Eliot. At ¼ to 6 Nela & I walked to see Lady Thompson & on to 2 Harley Place to call on the Dyers they were out & we hurried back to dress & Mr & Mrs Henry White came & dined with Nela & me & took us to Covent Garden to hear the opera Falstaff. It was the 1st time I had heard it & I was very much pleased. Mlle Giulia [illegible word] sang in it– Henry seemed brighter today & this afternoon was very good & loving to me–
