18 June 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 18th June [1894]. Henry had a better night & seemed better this morning but he did not get up till near lunch time– He upset me dreadfully by what he said about never getting better & when Ola came to see him he told her he was very very ill & not last. Ola carried me off for a walk & I got better. We went to see Mrs Dyer to ask why Stella had not been to see Henry & Mrs Dyer promises to send her & then we went to Nottingham Place to enquire after Mrs Fred: Layard—saw her daughter Ida & she says her mother is getting on well. Then went to No 17 to see Blanche & so home to lunch. Eda Alderson came at 12 o’clock from Peterboro’ to stay with us but went off at once to Lord Edward Cecil’s wedding with Miss Maxse. At 3 Maria came in & Nela & I were just starting for a drive so we carried her off with us. We went down to see Connie & left Maria with her. It was raining hard all the afternoon so I came home by 4.30 & let Nurse go out. Lina DG came to see me & sat with Henry. Alice & Hallam also came– Sr Venturi came to see Henry—Maria & Sophy Palmer also. I sat with him till 7 when Nurse came in & he dined at 7.30 and eat a good dinner altho’ he was rather feverish. We 4 Nurse, Eda, Nela & I dined at 8. Henry was tired & asked to be carried upstairs at 9. Mr Herring came at 10 & found him better & the fever almost gone & when I went to say good night I found him calm & cool. I played patience with the 2 girls & went to bed at 11.
