15 July 1894 — Chenies | |
Sunday. 15th [July 1894]. We went to church in the village—a nice simple little service—no organ & the music sung very nicely in parts. A plain communion table with a fair linen cloth—quite refreshing to see such simplicity in these days. The sermon was on Death an allusion to some death in the village & tho’ appropriate was very trying to me– I sat the rest of the day in the conservatory till after 7 when I walked down by the stream with Augusta Gregory & watched Robert giving worms to the trout of wh there are abundance & the water being low the fishes’ fins were sometimes quite above the water. | |
