15 August 1894 — Devonshire House, Weymouth
Wednesday. 15th August [1894]. I set to work after breakfast & answered a lot of letters—& was busy at work abt 11 when the door opened & in walked my brother Monty. He had come over from Cowes for the day & was looking for lodgings for Lady Gerard– He sat & talked to me some time & then went out again till lunch at 1 when he returned. Afterwards we went out together & he got a little carriage & went about again to see lodgings but decided 2 Belvedere was the best. He then took me to the club to introduce me to Mr Sandback the maitre d’hotel & we sat in the ladies room. We were shown the Queen’s cup to be raced for by the yatcht’s next week—& then went down to the kitchen to see a new plate washing machine made at Devizes & then walked home. Monty went away to the station to go by 5.35 train back to Cowes– I had tea & then wrote a lot more letters till dinner at 7.30. Patience & read. It was still very windy & a sea on—but grew calm towards eveng. I received some flowers from Bere.
