14 August 1894 — Devonshire House, Weymouth
Tuesday. 14th August [1894]. I went for a walk after the post came in & on my return found a telegram to say Nelly & Eda Alderson was coming over from Bere Regis to see me in the afternoon. They arrived soon after lunch while I was writing– They sat talking with me. Had tea at 4 & then I walked to the station with them & saw them off by 4.55 train & then walked home. It was hot in the morning & came on to blow hard by middle day & the bleak cone was up. I wrote a lot of letters till dinner. Played patience & read in the eveng. I bought some sewing this morng to do for Emilia Riaño. This day last year Henry went to Lady Huntly’s funeral at Orton.
