14 September 1894 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 14th September [1894]. Did accounts &c. Mrs Ball came to see me at 12 & sat with me talking over about Henry’s last days. She had come here & seen him just as we were going out for what proved to be his last drive. Nurse Watson came to see me just before Mrs Ball & then Mrs Rate came & stayed to lunch. Afterwards I went out with Alice Rate & drove in a hansom with her to Cornwall Gardens where I left her & I walked home across the Park. Mr Poynter the Director of the Nat. Gallery came to tea & to look at the pictures with a view of seeing whether there would be any the National Gallery would be likely to take after my death. Then I showed him the photos: of our pictures at Ca’ Capello & he stayed till past seven & said he is coming out to Venice in Octr. Louis & Ola Du Cane came in & Louis returned later & dined with me & we talked over business matters till bed time.
