22 October 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 22nd October [1894]. Breakfasted in bed & got up by 11. Did house accounts & wrote some letters. The Emperor of Russia is evidently dying by todays telegrams. After lunch Ola & I went out in gondola to Mr Woods studio & he took us to see the imitation marble works of Sr Torres the builder as it is proposed to use this material for the internal decoration of our English Church here. It certainly is very clever & pretty. We went afterwards to a garden on the Giudecca in search of plants wh we did not find. It was a lovely day—tho’ early there was a thick white fog but it quite cleared off—& it was bright & warm. Went to the Ponte Carmonica to buy flower pots & there I left Ola & came home. She went to see Mrs Brown & Mrs Bronson. Ersilia Canevaro came to tea with me– Old Marchese Bentivoglio called & later Olga Montenegro who was very nice & understanding & sympathetic. Dined at 8. Patience & Ola read aloud.
