29 October 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 29th [October 1894]. A desultory morning & not able to do much. Wrote 2 letters—gardened. Twelve myrtle plants came from Florence replanted them. After lunch as it was a lovely warm day Ola & I went in gondola to the Lido. Landed at Sa Elizabetta & walked to the Bathing establishment to the shore & along the shore to 4 Fontane & there found the gondola & came home by 4.30. It was the first time I have been to the Lido without Henry & I almost felt I could see him walking by my side & how he would have enjoyed the loveliness of– Very low tide—& smooth sands—sky & sea one blue & the sun on the distant breakwater & the boats & sails. It was as much as I could bear– Sent Felicie & Roberts out to a concert so we dined at 7.30. Ola read to me in eveng while I played patience.
