19 February 1895 — Cairo | |
Tuesday. 19th February [1895]. I sat indoors working. Lady Ashburton asked me to drive with her after lunch & just as we were getting into the carriage she changed her mind & said she would rather go alone & had only asked me to go because she thought it would please me. So I hopped out of the carriage & said I really thought I would prefer to walk & so I set off with her niece & went down the road to look for Elaine who was sketching on the bridge & brought her home with us. | |
