2 March 1895 — Cairo
Saturday. 2nd March [1895]. Elaine was not very well & stayed in bed till after lunch & I sat with her all the morning playing occasional visits to Aline who had some fever & kept her room– At 4 I went for a walk in the desert with Mr Mossop. The day was cool & there was a N. wind blowing & we walked a good way, talking as we went on all subjects but said nothing direct about his relations towards Aline. He said he was weary of idling & wanted to go home & work an idea which I encouraged– We returned by the Pyramids abt 6 & I found the girls better & sitting in my room. Had a talk with Major Bourke after dinner & then went up & played patience till bed time.
