5 April 1895 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Friday. 5th April [1895]. Wrote letters &c in morning. After lunch Lord & Lady Burton came to see Elaine & we showed them the house. It is the first time I have shown the house & pictures to any one without Henry—& I felt it much—he used to be so proud of showing & explaining it to people! Elaine & I went out in gondola & took a turn in Riva Schiavoni & looked in on Css Pisani. Came home to tea. Mrs Eden called. I went to dine alone with the Countess. Mr Carey came to see me just before I went to talk about the church & Sailor’s Institute. | |
