17 August 1895 — Bere Cottage, Bere Regis, Dorset
Saturday. 17th August [1895]. Nelly & I painted in the studio & worked at the head of the little girl who sat to us last Wedy till lunch. At 4 we took our tea & drove to the Wood near Woodlands to fish & were joined by Mr Eustace Radcliffe. I took 2 small trout. He persuaded us to dine with him & his cousin young Mr Park at Woodlands at 7 & they took us out fishing directly afterwards as it was supposed to be the best time for fishing but I caught nothing & Mr Ratcliffe only 3 small ones. We got home at 9.30 & went at once to bed very tired. Woodlands is a small farm house but there are some very nice pictures there tho’ I could not see them in the dusk. They seemed Dutch & Italian. Lovely day.
