2 November 1895 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 2nd [November 1895]. Maria & I started off by 9.13 train for Dorking from Victoria & reached Spring Farm about 11. It was a foggy morning but the sun came out when we got there at which I was glad that Maria might have a good impression of the place. We found Mrs Young the caretaker & her husband my late coachman had arrived yesterday & were settling in. Ivory the nurseryman met us there & later came Mr Rate & the carpenter & we settled a good deal of business & then walked across the fields to Milton Court & lunched with Mr & Mrs Rate & then took a walk with them in their garden & then started off to return to town by 3.47 train & got to Savile Row for tea. Nelly & Eda went to see their brother Monty at Hatfield where he is curate but returned for dinner.
