Tuesday. 19th [May 1896]. Roberts informs me that the new gondolier I have got is known to be a bad lot & he hears that he has been in prison for theft for 3 years & has only just come out of prison. This has upset the household & I have written to ask the English V. Consul to find out the truth of the matter & to advise me what to do. | |
