28 June 1896 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Sunday. 28th [June 1896]. Got up at 7.30. Read Dante. Breakfast in my room & dressed by 10. Went to church with the Css. A great reform has taken place in the conduct of the people at church & they were perfectly quiet & respectful. It appears D. Antonio has become more severe & turned some of those who misbehaved themselves out of the church. We after service took a walk round the garden & abt 12.50 arrived Countess Miari from S. Elena & also Mrs Eden from Venice & we lunched at 1 & then sat in the salon talking til 3. Css Miari is a young & pretty woman a good mother & wife & seemed very sensible. She left at 3 & then the Css Pisani, Mrs Eden & I went round the garden talking plants & flowers & had afternoon tea in a shady nook. We dined at 7 & left directly after Carry & I to return to Venice where we arrived at 10.30. I found Cortelazzo had arrived yesterday at Ca’ Capello & remains till tomorrow. Just as we left Vescovana Marchese Carlo Bentivoglio arrived here to stay with the Countess.
