17 July 1896 — Villa Mier, Belluno | |
Friday. 17th [July 1896]. It was still very hot & all last night there was a thunderstorm going on. We read by turns a lot of Gibbon & only went out for an hour before dinner—paced up & down on a grass plot talking– I read after dinner Gibbon & French. We were dining, as usual, on the balcony when it came on to rain & we had to hurry in & had the table carried in & finished our meal inside the house. | |
