16 July 1896 — Villa Mier, Belluno | |
Thursday. 16th [July 1896]. Had breakfast at 8 & Sophy read aloud & began to read Gibbon to me while I worked. I typed for Sophy in afternoon. Lunch at 12 & tea at 4.30 & then we went for a long walk along a ridge of hill on this side of the Feltre road till we came to a glorious view looking down into a valley with a stream or torrent—probably the Piave & we got back only just in time for 8 o’cl dinner. I finished “Rome” & began to read aloud Vie de Saint Francois by Sabatier. | |
