21 July 1896 — Villa Mier, Belluno
Tuesday. 21st [July 1896]. Read & worked. Mrs Eden walked over to see us & had tea with us at 4.30. I was rather headachy & not up to doing much. We had a carriage from Belluno to take a drive & we took Mrs Eden with us & left her on the road at the nearest point to her house & then drove thro’ lovely country on the Agordo road to a villa called Col di Vin & then home. All the time it looked stormy & lowering but we got home without rain. Just as we were going to sit down to dinner a tremendous storm burst over us & there came down sheets of rain & we had to make a rush to shut all shutters & windows. The storm did not last long. Sophy read to us in the evening.
