4 September 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 4th [September 1896]. I typed in the morning for Sophy. After lunch Lou Gordon & Miss Soulsby called. The latter is a tall pleasant woman very interesting to talk to– She is head of the High School at Oxford. We had interesting talk about education of women. She is rather against the over education—& seems doubtful of its effects on the whole race in the future. Mr Carey came to tea also & Sir John Conroy an Oxford Prof of Chemistry a friend of Sophy. He is tall & rather weak in health & rather silent. Iduna Bel came also. Sophy & I went out later to the Piazza & I took a cheque to pay Missiaglia for the two pearl necklaces Blanche bought for her girls.
