1 October 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 1st October [1896]. Bertha had made the wedding cake for the Mocenigo-Robilant marriage & I made a white satin temple to put on the top of it & painted their arms for an adornment. It was very satisfactory when done & Bertha distinguished herself. Today the civil marriage took place at the Municipio & Olga brought the sposi to call on me afterwards in the afternoon. The Gordons & Hansons went out to tea with the Montalbas & Iduna Bel came & had tea with me quietly in my room– The signing of the contract was in the evening & the Mocenigos gave an evening party to which the Hansons & Gordons went. Roberts my butler went to superintend the supper. I went early to bed. Mrs Hanson did not go so we played patience till bed time.
