10 October 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 10th October [1896]. Typed all the morning. Was interrupted by the visit of a Greek lady called Mrs Fitzgerald Law—who brought a letter from the English V. Consul Mr de Zuccato– An agreeable woman—smart & handsome. She stayed some time. She said her husband is Commercial attache to Major Law at the Embassy at Rome. Afterwards Signor Zerazzi called (the artist) & we talked about a bust of Olwen Du Cane I had once made in terra cotta & wh had been painted dark brown. He advised my washing off the paint so George Gordon & I went & bought brushes & after we began the operation. Lady Harriet & Miss Hervey came to tea—& later Iduna Bel. came. It appears she knew abt Mrs Law who came from Consple & has a very queer reputation.
