24 October 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 24th [October 1896]. Nevil & I were sitting making a water colour sketch of the dining room when to my great surprise Blanche Lady Lindsay was announced. She has come out here for a little change of scene as she is not well—the first trip she has taken abroad since all her troubles & her separation from Sir Coutts. At 4 oclock I took her back to the Grand Hotel & then went to sit with poor old General de Horsey who is still laid up in his bed after having the bone of leg scraped by that horrid Dr Kepler. I spent an hour with him talking to pass the time & amuse him & then I went to Iduna Belmondo’s to join Nevil Gordon at tea there.
