29 October 1896 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 29th [October 1896]. I & Annie left Venice by 8.45 train. Olga Mocenigo went also by that train as she was going to see her sposi at Turin. When we reached Milan Olga having an hour to wait accompanied me to Hotel Cavour & dined there & then returned to the station. I went to Signor Cavenaghi’s to hear his opinion of the four pictures I sent him for repair. He was enthusiastic over the big Palma Vecchio which he says is entirely repainted & will come out magnificent when he has removed the repairs. The 2 Saints (Borgognone) only require revarnishing he says—& the Longhi portrait is badly blistered. I walked on to Canzi the enbroideress & was there 2 hours discussing the curtains for Mr G. Clarks state bedroom at Talygarn. Walked back to the Hotel. Had tea & went to bed.
