15 December 1896 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 15th December [1896]. Nela comes every morng now to the studio & I am teaching her to paint fans, so I am in the studio now some time every morning. Miss Hogarth came to lunch with me & afterwards I drove her & Nela & deposited her at her nephew Mr Dickens in Egerton Place. Then Nela & I drove on to Edward’s Square & called on Henry’s nephew & his bride Capt. & Mrs Arthur Layard. She received us in her room & was on the sofa with her 15 day old baby. They live in the queerest house called Leighton Lodge—a stable converted into a dwelling house & studio. Mrs L. looked very delicate– She is rather pretty.
