5 January 1897 — 3 Savile Row
Tuesday. 5th [January 1897]. Aura Guest left just before lunch to return to Inwood. Louis Du Cane appeared to lunch & brought me papers to sign about the buying of this house. I went out driving from 3 to 5– Went to see Mrs Rate & was shocked to fine her looking so ill. She is suffering from inflammation of the nerves of an arm– Felicia Lindsey came to tea with me & also Maria & later Mr James St Leger & he brought me a beautiful little drawing by Watts of my husband—evidently the original of the fine crayon in the Portrait Gallery. It belongs to Mr Senior & he allowed Mr St Leger to bring it to me to see. I wrote a lot of letters before & after dinner.
