20 February 1897 — 3 Savile Row
Saturday. 20th [February 1897]. Mr Vigor gave a painting lesson. At 9 I went out to take a cook’s character from a Mrs Cunningham—which is satisfactory & I am going to try her. I went on to call on At Felicia to get the food for the birds she gave me yesterday– Returned home to lunch– Set [out] at 4.15 for Waterloo Station accompanied by Nelly. Nela Du Cane joined me there & she & I went down to Ascot to stay with Lord Stanmore & Nevil Gordon at the Red House Ascot. It was five minutes walk from the station & as Lord Stanmore met us, Nela & I walked up with him to the house. It was just 6 when we got there. Found a Mr Murray (former secy of Lord S.) staying there also Col. & Mrs Gordon cousins–
